The Blues Boys of Columbia Heights

Nov 16th 2009 :: 7:43pm

After this Thursday, all of the denizens of 1346 Spring will have DJed at our illustrious Back Room. Nick Olinger, housemate of DJs Mike Marcotte and Corey Wright, is out to show he's got a knack for DJing, too. A regular at The Jam Cellar, and DJ from the Cincinnati area, we're excited to see what tunes he's bringing out to share with us. Corey will also be spinning alongside of Nick, so expect the same energy as a good house party!

Also, Zhalgas 'Z' Adilov and Amber Zoe Smith will be teaching their A-Z blues class that nobody knows better. So, bring out your friends for this class as it's sure to help any dancer who's looking to learn some inspired yet approachable blues since that's kind of how I'd describe their dancing.

NOTE: We are closed on Thanksgiving. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

What I learned in Seattle: Coffee and Blues Dancing -- Cure for the Rainy Day Blues!

Nov 12th 2009 :: 4:55pm

Subbing in for Allen Kerr tonight will be our very own Mike Marcotte. Back from Seattle with some new tunes, he's amped up to play tonight, and dance, too, since it appears the pinkeye is taking a day off. It's been really busy and needs sleep almost as badly as Mike. Another exhausted in delight dancer is Johanna Greiner who will be spinning the first half of the dance. These two have spun together before, and "Mikey" is looking forward to a great night of dancing.

Before the dance, however, we've got Tamar Rachel Mucha & Alan Chung. They will be teaching beginner concepts from 8:15pm until the dance starts at 9:00pm. So, get out your umbrellas and let's do a dance to make the rain go away. I know I have the blues about this rain, I got enough in Seattle. The best remedies I've found for these blues include good coffee (sipping some good stuff right now from Qualia Coffee on Georgia ave. in Petworth) and dancing -- TONIGHT!

Want a date? We've got two!

Nov 2nd 2009 :: 7:57pm

We're pleased and proud to announce that we're going to throw two big parties next year. We had so much fun and heard so many wonderful things, that we almost can't help but try to recreate some of the magic from 2009. Red Hot Blues 'n BBQ will happen on the same weekend, July 16-18 in 2010. And we'll bring back bamBLOOZled December 3-5, 2010.

We'll let you know right here as details start to develop. Thanks to all of you danced with us and helped make 2009 such a success!

Out-Of-Town Events

Some say our locals should travel more. More? I think DC knows how to show up at another event and represent, but it can't hurt to encourage you all to travel more for dancing. It's a great way to help grow the community, make new friendships, and bring back new ideas to Washington, D.C. Here is a list of upcoming blues-dancing events you might want to check out:
